Meet Abdullah Ghabayen, Founder and President
Abdullah M. Ghabayen is the founder, president, and operations manager of AMG Proline Inc. He is an engineer by training, a licensed general contractor by trade, an interior designer by practice, and a remodeling expert by three decades of doing the work.
That combination is rare, and it is the whole argument for working with us. Design firms draw spaces they will never build. Contractors build spaces somebody else drew. Abdullah does both, which means the design you approve is a design he already knows how to execute, at a price he already stands behind.
In 2025, Marquis Who’s Who inducted Abdullah into its biographical registry and featured him on the cover of Millennium Magazine, Seventeenth Edition, in the Architecture, Construction and Real Estate section. You can read the full Marquis feature here.
He is also on your job site. That is not a small detail. Most remodeling companies of this size hand you off to a salesperson at the estimate and to a subcontractor after the contract is signed. At AMG Proline, the person who designs your kitchen, prices it, and answers for it is the same person who owns the company.
His work is guided by three words that have been on the AMG Proline logo since the beginning: Inspire. Design. Build.
It Started in a Glass Shop in 1996
Abdullah entered the construction industry in 1996, working in his family’s glass business. He did not start at a desk. He started measuring openings, cutting and handling glass, learning tolerances, and finding out the hard way that a quarter inch of error at the top of a wall becomes a visible problem at the bottom.
Glass is an unforgiving material to learn on. It cannot be shimmed, trimmed, or talked into fitting. Either the opening was measured correctly and the framing is square, or the piece does not go in. That early training in precision shaped everything that came after it, and it is still the reason our shower enclosures, cabinet runs, and countertop seams line up the way they do.
Over the following years he moved through nearly every role in the business: fabrication, installation, estimating, scheduling, and client management. By the time he was running projects himself, he had done personally almost every task he would later ask a crew to do.
Learning the Trade Across Three Markets
Before settling in Chicago, Abdullah ran projects in Orlando and San Diego. The work ranged from custom residential homes to commercial build outs, including restaurants.
Working across three markets taught him something most contractors never have to learn: building codes, climates, soil conditions, labor markets, and inspection cultures are all different, and a process that works in one place falls apart in another. A slab-on-grade home in Florida and a century-old brick bungalow in Chicago are different problems with different failure points.
That range is why he is comfortable in any Chicago housing stock we encounter, from bungalows and two flats to Naperville new builds and Lincoln Park condos. He has seen how buildings fail in three climates, so he knows what to look for behind the walls before demolition day.
Founding AMG Proline in 2015
Abdullah founded AMG Proline Inc. in 2015 to serve the Chicago community, and he built it around the things that had frustrated him most as a project manager working under other companies.
The founding principles have not changed since:
One team, one contract. No chain of subcontractors, no finger pointing between trades, no client left to coordinate an electrician and a plumber who have never met. Design, permits, structural work, mechanicals, and finish carpentry all run under one roof.
A fixed written price. The estimate is itemized by trade and material before anything begins. If a condition inside the wall changes the scope, the client is told immediately, in writing, with a price attached, before work continues.
The owner stays on the job. Abdullah personally walks every project. Clients get his number.
In 2020 he expanded the business by founding AMG Glass and Shower Doors Inc., bringing the family trade he learned first into the company as an in-house capability. Today that division fabricates and installs the frameless and semi-frameless enclosures that finish our bathroom projects, which means we are not waiting on an outside glass vendor to close out a job.
MEET THE OWNER
Designer First, Then Builder
Marquis Who’s Who describes Abdullah as an interior designer and construction leader, and the order matters. He approaches a remodel as a design problem before he approaches it as a construction problem.
His philosophy is to blend aesthetics with function. Neither one wins on its own. A kitchen that photographs beautifully but forces you to walk around an island to reach the sink has failed. A kitchen that is perfectly efficient and completely cold has failed differently. The job is to get both, and getting both requires deciding how a space will be used before deciding how it will look.
He believes every space should tell a story and give the people inside it an experience that resonates. In a home, that story is your family’s. In a cafe, it is the reason a customer chooses to stay for a second cup instead of taking the first one to go.
That thinking is why our process puts 3D design in front of you before a single material is ordered. You are approving the experience, not just the finishes.
The Engineer’s Approach to Planning
Abdullah’s engineering background shows up in how a project is planned rather than in how it is talked about.
Before a design is presented, the structure is understood. Which walls carry load and which do not. Where the joists run and which direction. What the electrical service can actually support once you add an induction range, a wall oven, and under cabinet lighting. Whether the drain slope will work if the sink moves four feet. How much a stone slab weighs and whether the cabinet run under it is built to hold it.
Most remodeling problems are not craftsmanship problems. They are planning problems that only become visible at the finish stage, when they are expensive to fix. A kitchen where the island blocks the dishwasher door, a shower that pools water at the curb, a beam that had to be dropped eight inches after the ceiling was already designed flat. All of these get decided in the first week and paid for in the last.
Our process front loads that thinking:
- Consultation. We walk the space with you and talk about how you actually use it.
- Design and layout. You see 3D mapped-out drawings and approve them before anything is ordered.
- Material selection. You choose stone, cabinetry, tile, and fixtures, in person at our Crestwood showroom or at your kitchen table.
- Construction. We pull the permits and build, with one point of contact throughout.
- Final walkthrough. We walk it together and do not call it finished until you do.
Owner, Operator, and Operations Manager
Abdullah runs AMG Proline as an owner operator, which in practice means he holds three jobs at once.
As owner, he sets the standard for what leaves the shop and what gets signed off. He decides which materials we stock, which suppliers we work with, and which jobs we turn down. Turning work down is part of it. A project that cannot be done properly for the budget available is a project we decline rather than cut corners on.
As operations manager, he handles the part clients rarely see: sequencing crews so the tile setter is not waiting on the electrician, ordering long-lead materials early enough that a countertop template does not stall a job for three weeks, keeping licensing and insurance current, and making sure inspections are scheduled before the trades are ready rather than after.
As the lead craftsman, he is still the one who catches the thing nobody else caught. Nearly thirty years of installations means he sees a problem in framing or plumbing rough-in at a glance, while it is still cheap to correct.
Clients notice the results of this in ordinary ways. Crews show up when they said they would. The house is clean at the end of the day. Questions get answered the same day. Schedules are honest instead of optimistic.
Focus and Specialization
AMG Proline’s core work is residential kitchen and bathroom remodeling across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. That is where the majority of our projects live and where our showroom, our cabinet work, and our stone fabrication are aimed.
Alongside that, Abdullah has built a name in the Chicago metropolitan region for cafe and coffee shop design, along with restaurant, salon, spa, office, and retail build outs. Commercial hospitality work has a different clock and a different set of constraints. The build has to hit an opening date, pass health and fire inspection, survive constant public use, and look intentional enough that customers want to stay in the room.
Whether the project is an industrial-chic cafe or a sleek coffee shop, the goal is the same: a space designed to leave a lasting impression and send people away with a memorable experience.

Vision
Abdullah’s long-term goal for AMG Proline is not to be the biggest remodeling company in Chicagoland. It is to stay the one that a family recommends to their neighbor without hesitating.
That drives a specific set of choices: staying owner operated rather than scaling into a sales organization, keeping trades in house instead of brokering them out, investing in a real showroom where people can touch materials before committing, and continuing to train younger craftsmen the way he was trained, on the tools, under supervision, on real jobs.
He also takes seriously the role of mentor to people entering the trades. His own path from a family glass shop to a construction management company is the argument he makes to anyone starting out: learn the material, do the work yourself first, and keep learning, because this industry changes constantly and the craftsmen who stop adapting get left behind.
